What the boat provides

A standard klotok trip includes mattresses, pillows, sheets and mosquito nets, three meals a day, drinking water, coffee and tea, and towels on most boats. Ask your operator to confirm towels and whether there is a charging point.

What stays at home

Drones need permits in national parks, so leave yours unless your operator has arranged one. Leave single-use plastic and loud speakers behind too. Hard suitcases are awkward on the boat; a soft bag stores more easily on deck.

Questions travellers ask

Do I need malaria pills for Tanjung Puting?

Ask a travel health clinic before you go; advice depends on the latest local data and your own health. Repellent and long sleeves at dusk are useful anyway.

What shoes are best?

Sandals for the boat and light closed shoes or trail runners for the forest paths, which can be muddy.

Is there phone signal on the river?

Patchy. Signal is usually good near Kumai and weak or absent upriver.
